New Year’s Resolutions? But Kasi… it’s March!?

New Year’s Resolutions? But Kasi… it’s March!?

Yes, yes. I know.
It might sound a bit wild to be talking about setting goals now… but honestly? I think March is the perfect time.

Way back in January, I shared that I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions.
I know that’s the time everyone’s jumping on vision boards, productivity hacks and “new year, new me” energy, but it’s never felt quite right for me.

Why?
Because January is the middle of Winter.

It’s a time of rest, reflection, and pulling back. Much like our Inner Winter, or period phase, it’s meant to be slow. Quiet. Inward.

So setting goals? Sprinting off the start line with a plan?
It’s always felt a bit… off. Like I’m swimming against the current before I’ve even rested my arms.

🌞 But Then March Arrived…

And suddenly, the sun started creeping in through the windows.
My mornings felt a little lighter. My mood shifted.
I felt more open to dreaming. To planning. To doing, but in a way that felt grounded, not rushed.

That’s when I remembered:
Spring is Nature’s New Year.

The real one. The one we feel in our bones.
When nature starts again, and our bodies often follow.

Everything made sense again.

So over the last few days, I gave myself some space to reconnect, realign, and finally start setting intentions for the year ahead, without the pressure, without the overwhelm.

And honestly? It felt like the most nourishing goal-setting I’ve ever done.

🌷 Why Spring Makes So Much More Sense for Goal Setting

Let’s think about what’s happening in nature right now:

  • Buds are forming

  • Seeds are sprouting

  • Light is returning

  • Energy is rising

It’s the perfect mirror for how we might want to move forward in our own lives. But here’s the twist:

Just because it’s Spring outside, doesn’t mean it’s Spring inside your cycle.

You could be in your Inner Autumn, feeling reflective and tender.
Or your Inner Winter, needing rest and space.
Maybe you’re in your Inner Spring or Summer, bursting with ideas and energy.

Whatever phase you’re in, it matters.
And the real magic happens when you can work with both the outer season and your inner one.

🌀 Here’s How I Did It (And How You Can Too)

This isn’t about perfect planning or 5-step productivity hacks.
This is about slowing down, listening in, and setting goals that honour where you actually are.

✍🏽 1. I reflected before I rushed

I asked myself:

  • What’s felt heavy lately?

  • What have I been carrying that I don’t want to bring into Spring?

  • What’s been feeling really good in my life right now?

This helped me get honest about what I want more of, and what needs to go.

🌟 Try this:
Grab your journal and write:

“This season, I want to feel…”
“I’m ready to release…”
“I’m calling in…”

🌱 2. I chose one intention

Not ten. Not a huge list. Just one meaningful intention that lit me up when I said it out loud.

For me, it was about creating more space to feel grounded in my day, to work, rest, and parent without rushing.
Nothing fancy. Just true.

🌟 Try this:
What’s one area of your life that’s calling for attention?
Home, work, relationships, health?
Pick one word or theme for Spring. Let that guide your actions.

🌀 3. I broke it down, cycle-style

Once I had my intention, I mapped it to my menstrual cycle phases.
Because what my body needs in Inner Winter is not what it wants in Inner Summer, and forcing it never ends well.

Here’s how I break goals down:

  • Inner Winter (Menstruation): rest, vision, reflect

  • Inner Spring (Follicular): plan, brainstorm, play

  • Inner Summer (Ovulation): take action, show up, share

  • Inner Autumn (Luteal): refine, edit, let go, complete

🌟 Try this:
Take your one goal and ask:

“What does this goal need from me in each phase of my cycle?”

🧼 4. I cleared space

This part is underrated but so powerful.
I cleaned out one drawer. I said no to a couple of things I didn’t have capacity for.
I deleted a load of stuff off my phone I’d been ignoring.

Tiny things, but I felt lighter almost immediately.
Like I’d made space for something new to land.

🌟 Try this:
Where can you clear space, in your physical environment, your calendar, or your mind?

Just one small action. That’s enough.

🌼 Final Thoughts

Goal setting doesn’t have to feel like a grind.
And it definitely doesn’t have to happen in January.

When you give yourself permission to move with the natural rhythms, both outside and inside, you start to create change that sticks.
Not because you forced it.
But because you flowed with it.

So if you’ve been feeling a little behind, unmotivated, or unsure of what you even want this year, this is your sign.

The time is now. But only if it feels right.

Let yourself set goals from a place of connection, not pressure.
Let Spring be your soft new start.
Let your cycle guide the pace.

You don’t have to bloom like anyone else. You’re allowed to bloom your way.
